The story

The occupation of the site of Canet is very old. During the Roman period, Canet probably served as a maritime outlet for the town of Ruscino. The settlement then settled on the site of the current village, near the castle dating from the early 11th century. The development of wine-growing in the 19th century helped to develop the local economy. The beach of Canet was appreciated very early on. The first bathing establishment on the coast was created there in 1849. Over time, the town became a well-known seaside resort. Today, Canet-en-Roussillon is a tourist town, chosen by many for its quality of life all year round.
