Drinking Water
Good management of the water cycle is important to protect the planet and ensure the health of all. This is why the Urban Community is in charge of several actions.
Water management
By Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole
The water drawn from the groundwater is naturally potable. It is filtered by the soil through which it flows. However, to be able to flow safely and transparently to the tap, the water must be protected against the bacteria it might encounter in the pipes during its transport. This is why tiny doses of chlorine are injected into the network (the equivalent of one drop for every five baths). The drinking water is then stored in underground tanks or water towers which serve as pressure regulators and reserves.
