PMM: actor and facilitator of the Energy and Ecological Transition
Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole is committed to an active and voluntary approach in favour of sustainable development, renewable energy and the climate. Since the Grenelle de l'Environnement in 2008, it has implemented a large number of concrete actions.
In the face of the climate emergency, we need to go even further. In this respect, since 2015, the law has entrusted inter-municipal structures with the role of coordinating the energy transition on their territory. Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole is more than ever ready to play its role as an actor and leader in the energy and ecological transition!
Thus, in line with European, national and regional objectives, the elected representatives of Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole have committed to an ambitious objective: to become a Positive Energy Territory by 2050. This means producing more energy than we consume. The Sustainable Development Objectives Programme 2018-2024 (merger of Local Agenda 21 France and the Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan), which was adopted in December 2019, intends to act in all the areas of competence and sectoral policies of the Urban Community to :
- to improve the daily lives of residents,
- develop public transport and cycle paths,
- promote short agricultural circuits,
- reduce fuel poverty,
- better preserve our environment,
- improve waste sorting,
- preserve water resources, etc. ...
but also to initiate a real dynamic at the local level, to mobilise and support municipalities, companies and citizens.
An Energy Master Plan is also being developed to structure this energy transition.
The energy and ecological transition is everyone's business, and above all that of the territories, of those who live there every day. It is the territories that have the skills and know-how!
